MATILDA'S PROJECT
Matilda's Project is a new Australian theatre production written, produced, and acted by Danny Gibbins, Dramazing coordinator and teacher, in association with other qualified educators. The show, with pantomime elements, is aimed at children aged 3-12. It will debut as part of the 2012 Midsumma festival in Melbourne, Australia.
The play aims to break through the stereotypes and present a more balanced perspective of what constitutes a family. Through the sharing of Australian books and personal stories, games, songs and art the audience is treated to a light-hearted, funny, and inspiring experience that promotes inclusion.

Books, cds and other resources promoting a variety of family forms for children will be available for purchase at the show along with drinks and snacks.
SYNOPSIS
Matilda's grade 1 teacher has set the class a project; To present about their families. Constantly bombarded with stereotypical images in books and media about what a family should look like, she is nervous about seeming different to her peers. After discussion with her mothers, she confidently presents her story to the class and her teacher reads the book 'The Rainbow Cubby' by Brenna and Vicki Harding. Next, a boy from a split family shares an insight into his two homes, and the teacher reads 'Two Birthday Cakes' by Nicky McWilliam. Lastly, a girl raised by her grandparents shares a poem and her thoughts. The teacher reads the book 'Bush Tucka, Good Tucka' by Aunty Jan Brown, Daphne Bell, Debbie Lewis, Deborah Minton, Kerry Burns, Michelle Harrison, Narelle Trist, Sandra Burbo, and Robert Madden. They learn a song about family diversity, and Matilda goes home to teach her mothers the lesson she has learned from the day, that all families are different, but what they have in common is love.
The production will be staged at the Learning Centre at CERES www.ceres.org.au from January 25th - 29th at 2:30pm. Tickets $15 full, $8 children 3-12, under 3 free.
