How The Programs Were Developed
The Dramazing Kids programs have been developed by Ms. Danny Gibbins, a qualified primary school teacher with over 10 years mainstream and special needs teaching, and theatre writing, directing and production experience.
After graduating Monash University with an Honours degree in Sociology in 2004, Danny realised that although fascinated by social interactions, she was most passionate about working with children, especially developing an understanding of, and ability to assist, those who struggled with social interactions. She completed an Integration Aide certificate at Monash University, in 2006 graduated from RMIT university with a Primary School Teaching postgraduate diploma.
Danny has spent the last 14 years teaching students in a range of capacities in a mainstream primary school with a large population of integrated students with special needs. She has seen how difficult social interactions can be for both mainstream and integrated students alike
As a teacher, Danny has always been passionate about the use of drama to support learning and develop life long skills. She has used plays to build student confidence and reinforce understanding of curriculum based class focuses (e.g Sustainability or Weather Science) and role play to assist students to develop social maturity.
Outside of the classroom she has taken this interest further to create and develop socially relevant theatre for both children and adults. In this capacity she has had experience as a playwright, director, actress, producer, puppeteer and educator assisting to develop social skills and social awareness through theatre.
She has combined several classroom and social skill strategies from a range of sources with theatre to create programs which benefit individuals, families and school communities.
